The Wonders of Australia
Australia has sadly been in the news for all the wrong reasons recently, but as the floods recede and the Queensland clear-up mission is well under way, Australia Day (26 January) has come at the ideal time for a much-needed celebration - as well as providing fund-raising opportunities to help the victims of the floods.
And there is much to celebrate! Australia has 2 entries amongst the final 28 natural sites vying to be named one of the New7Wonders of Nature, with both Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef featured. After a 2 year campaign, voting closes on 10 November 2011 and the final New7Wonders of Nature will be announced on 11 November 2011.
Also featured in the final 28 are Canada’s tidal wonder at the Bay of Fundy and New Zealand’s majestic Milford Sound. You can view the full list of finalists and vote for your favourites here.

Australia voted best destination!
Once again the readers of Ultratravel, the Telegraph's prestigious travel magazine, have voted for Australia as their 'Best Holiday Destination', with New Zealand a close runner-up. Despite economic crises, airline strikes and erupting volcanoes there is still an enduring fascination with our Antipodean friends. With such a strong shared history and similarities in language and humour, plus a truly enviable lifestyle, it's not surprising that British travellers are prepared to spend 24 hours flying to the other side of the world to their favourite destinations.
As Ultratravel explains:
“Oz clinches the title for the third year in a row, for its superb climate, glorious beaches, fine food and New World wines – all in the palatable comfort zone of a country that shares a common language, humour and love of sport with visiting Poms.”
Call us biased, but we couldn't agree more!!

Iceland & New Zealand are Telegraph Travel Award Winners
Following the Telegraph Travel Awards in November it is great to see that readers have voted Iceland into the top 4 European countries to visit! To further the celebration, for the third consecutive year New Zealand was voted the top non-European country, closely followed by Australia. Voted by The Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph readers, this success is fantastic news for both destinations.
This comes as no surprise to me...Iceland a land shaped by nature, stunning scenery comprised of cascading waterfalls, sweeping glaciers and geothermal wonders can capture anyone's heart. New Zealand with truly incredible scenery, an array of exciting and fun-filled activities and experiences, fascinating culture and intriguing wildlife there really is something for everyone in the ‘land of the long white cloud’. So in short I can safely say I have a great fondness of both New Zealand and Iceland and feel they deservedly win these awards!

Hotel Borg In 'Top 100 Best Hotels Worldwide'
Hotel Borg in Reykjavik, Iceland, has been named by the Sunday Times Travel Magazine as one of the world’s 100 best hotels! Actually, this is comes as no surprise to me. After staying there recently I can safely say that it deservedly is ‘the’ place to stay in Reykjavik, situated near the national parliament on a grassy square and just a stones throw away from the main shopping street and nightlife.
Hotel Borg is a beautiful 4-star Art Deco hotel recently restored to its original Art Deco style and furnished to an extremely high standard with every detail noted to perfection from the
door handles to the overall decor and ambience, I could not fault it. Even the breakfast room is a delight, as I strolled sleepily down to breakfast I was pleasantly surprised by a beautifully candle lit hallway leading to the old English style breakfast room. To further Hotel Borg’s appeal they have a beautifully designed restaurant Silfur that takes a modern stance to the Art Deco style and serves delicious French cuisine by an award-winning chef.
Whether you are on a romantic city break or on a self-drive holiday to Iceland, I highly recommend a stay at Hotel Borg, one of the world’s 100 best hotels.
