Our Nordic Product Assistant, Emma Putnam, gives us a glimpse of her recent adventures on the stunning Klaralven river whilst on a wilderness adventure in Varmland, West Sweden - an itinerary available only with Discover the World.
“Now at my own admission I am not as happy on the water as I am doing land based activities, however I am all for exploring the countryside using all modes of transport available. In Varmland many activities are based on and around the famous Klaralven river. Today we were given a safety briefing and some tuition before being let loose on the river. For the first 500m, I cannot deny that we did canoe at least 3 times the distance that everyone else did. This was mainly due to a trial an error method of learning how to steer, but once we had cracked that we were off, canoeing does not require a huge amount of strength to paddle unless momentarily you try to create Ben Fogle and James Cracknell’s attempt to cross the Atlantic Ocean!
Once we had our rhythm there was nothing to think about other than enjoying the supreme natural beauty around us, an incredibly relaxing feeling. All around there was evidence of life on the river banks, the chance that you may catch sight of a majestic moose or even glimpse an illusive otter or beaver. To be so at one with nature is an experience in itself.
All too soon our trip was over and it was time to bring the canoes onto the beach and tie them up for the night, and for us to head for bed, contented with our day’s activities…”
