From geysers to waterfalls, volcanic lava fields to glacial lagoons, Iceland offers a wealth of natural wonders that can be enjoyed for free as well as fun things to do in the city.
A new website,Free City Travel, aims to celebrate everything you can do in Reykjavik for free and offers suggestions to travellers looking for something different as well as those on a budget.
One of our favourites is the Culture House, situated in the heart of downtown Reykjavik which features a host of medieval manuscripts and historical Icelandic artifacts with free admission on Wednesdays.
Another is the Reykjavik Art Museum which, much like London’s Tate Modern, has converted a disused industrial space and turned it into a space for contemporary and intriguing art.
For the non-culture vultures,Perlan in the Reykjavik hills is an exciting destination. Built upon four huge water tanks, Perlan offers a fantastic view of the city from the 4th floor and for those a touch peckish there is an affordable cafe and a revolving restaurant.
So get out there and explore Reykjavik to your heart’s content and keep your wallet safely tucked away in your pocket!
