In amidst the current economic climate Iceland has reason to celebrate - a record number of visitors have been discovering the incredible delights of this spectacular country. The Iceland Tourist Board has revealed nearly a 15% increase in tourist numbers in September and the first few weeks of October in comparison with 2007 figures for these months. This is fantastic news for Iceland in this difficult time.
Iceland is a fantastic country to visit year round and offers visitors activities and sights abound throughout the seasons. My recent trip to Iceland fuelled my desire to visit more during the winter months and experience the country in a different light, literally. From an exhilarating snowmobile ride on the Myrdalsjokull glacier to luxuriating in the famous Blue Lagoon surrounded by snow covered lava fields whilst keeping your fingers crossed for a sighting of the Northern Lights, Iceland is a truly special destination. One sight that is truly wonderful is when the surface water of the famous Gullfoss is frozen in time as the winter climes encapsulate the flowing falls in ice.
So, as winter creeps in embrace the idea of visiting Iceland as a winter destination and experience some extraordinary sights!
