This weekend is your last chance to take a look at Icelandic Artist Hreinn Fridfinnsson’s fascinating conceptual art exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery in London.
This is the first UK showing of one of Iceland’s most famous artists and it can’t fail to catch and keep your attention for days afterwards. So if you’d like to get an insight into the colourful world of Icelandic Art without flying out to Iceland then this is your chance!
Hreinn Fridfinnsson grew up on a farm in Iceland in the ‘40s and ‘50s and in the ‘70s he left Iceland and travelled to Amsterdam - taking his gift of storytelling and mythmaking that he had absorbed from his native sagas and epic poems, with him.
In this eye-catching art show Fridfinnsson creates his own nonsensical, mythical world. Ranging from the fun, to the sublime to the down right ridiculous – this exhibition is guaranteed to keep you entertained.
Interestingly much of Fridfinnsson’s work is temporary (some pieces on display will be binned after the exhibition). His art work is the very essence of conceptual art – it is anti-art, anti-commodity and fascinating.
For anyone with an interest in conceptual art - this exhibition should not be missed. Certainly Fridfinnsson’s works live longer in the mind than in object form.
The exhibition runs at the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens until the 2nd of September.
