If you're visiting New Zealand this year, be sure to check out the International Antarctic Centre in Christchurch as it has a new $2.5 million attraction opening on 23rd September 2006.
The New Zealand Penguin Encounter is a 600 square metre enclosure, which will be an extension to the existing Antarctic Centre and will house up to twenty six little Blue Penguins, the smallest of all penguins at just 40cms tall! With a 70,000 litre pool, the Encounter will allow visitors to view the Little Blue Penguins in a Banks Peninsula themed environment and will be accessed on two levels. The exciting 'state of the art' Encounter is New Zealand's first combined indoor and outdoor penguin viewing area and will be supported by comprehensive audio and visual displays.
The Antarctic Attraction is open every day of the year, including Christmas Day, from 9:00am.
