The Matariki Festival (Maori New Year) will be held until the end of June at Hawke’s Bay Showgrounds. Matariki heralds the arrival of the first new moon after the rising of the star cluster Pleiades in the eastern sky at dawn. It marks the end of the traditional harvest and the beginning of the ‘new year’ planting season. The Hawke’s Bay region is renowned for it’s wine and food so expect feasting, fun and festivity. There will be Maori games, heart-stopping fireworks and lots of food and wine.
