The first migrating Arctic tern of the season have been spotted in Blönduós, north Iceland, arriving four to five days later than usual.
The tern, which travels all the way from Antarctica, is ubiquitous in Iceland in summer and nests in large groups. It might also be good to know that terns can become highly aggressive during nesting season, diving and pecking the heads of unsuspecting trespassers! So if you happen to stumble across them at this time, watch your head!
